Domestic businesses report rise in confidence

There has been a significant rise in confidence amongst companies operating in the country’s domestic sector, according to IBEC’s latest Business Sentiment Survey.
Sentiment amongst non-exporting companies improved significantly during the second quarter of the year, according to the employers’ group, while the outlook for the three months ahead was also up.

The survey reports a fairly sluggish domestic economy for the first half of the year, but this is expected to improve in the next six months.

Confidence amongst exporting companies also remained high, according to IBEC, though it was slightly lower than in the first three months of the year.

This has resulted in a significant lowering in the gap in confidence between exporting and non-exporting companies.

The business group said this was all good news for jobs, with fewer domestic companies expecting to reduce staff and 27% of exporting businesses planning to hire in the next three months.
